That ball of slime named Sonny Perdue just got reelected governor of Georgia.

I think I've told everyone here the story of when he was campaigning at my high school, right? Or was that the band header?

To hell with georgia.

CNN has it Dem 144 to GOP 124 in the House. GOP 46 to Dem 45 in the Senate.

UPDATE: Dem 162 to GOP 136 in the House. DEM 47 to GOP 46 in the Senate.

Alright, so there I was, a high school senior, 17 years old but I'd be 18 by election time. Wow, over four years ago.

Anyway, Sonny Perdue was running for governor. He had a sure-fire method of doing so: getting the "Anybody but Roy" vote (Roy Barnes was the governor at the time, running for reelection, but he'd totally pissed off the teachers and a few various other little groups) and the "not Atlanta aka rural hick" vote. The former he accomplished by not being Roy Barnes, and the latterhe courted by offering a vote to return the state flag to the confederate flag again. Also by being a slimy hick good ol' boy redneck who was able to trick him with his "I'm just a regular ol' guy just like you" schtick.

Along the campaign trail, our paths crossed. All us seniors were taken to the cafeteria where chairs had been set up for us so he could do his campaign spiel. I took one look at him and knew, "This guy went to u(sic)ga and probably does the damn barking." Also that I didn't like him, he was slimy, etc. I couldn't exactly go shower to remove the greasy feeling I got, but I was fortunately wearing my Georgia Tech shirt underneath my sweatshirt. I got in a seat where he could see me then overly dramatically removed the sweatshirt.

To his credit, he didn't get obviously pissed off at me. I suppose that's just a politician thing, to hide one's emotions. But the fact that he immediately commented on it instead of just winking or being subtle meant that he wasn't pleased. Damn redneck.

So then a bunch of stupid stuff gets said and my classmates and teachers have totally fallen for him (damn rednecks) and he starts doing a condescending speech.

"Do any of you know what kind of government we live under?"

I raised my hand and answered, "A federal republic."

"That's right! A democracy!"

I don't quite remember what happened for the rest of the spiel, except that I was quite angry and he probably convinced all those other idiots to vote for him, while I burned with anger. Dammit, that's not what I said. Is he stupid or an asshole trying to show up a 17 year old high school twerp? One should really be past that by age [whatever he is], or at least actually be able to show up said twerp.

While I'm here, I predict that Georgia will eventually have a dumbass hick governor named Bubba McDonald. To hell with georgia.

At 193 to 153 the Dems are looking at holding a 40 seat majority if it continues to hold true. 89 seats left however.

Okay CNN doesn't want to call it but at 94% reported I think I will.

Prop 107, same sex ban and cancelization of benefits for civil unions and other such couples, has failed at 48% to 52%. Die Bitch Die!

Holy Shit Senate is 49 to 49 and the House is 224 to 183. This is a fullscale overthrow.

Would've been better if the Republicans had held the Senate. Then we could see legislative deadlock, with the government too busy subpoenaing itself to pass idiotic legislation. Now we're just going to get all the stupid shit that happens when one party controls both chambers.

The day after, the Senate hangs on two seats which are not yet called. Tester in Montana, a grassroots candidate practically made by the net bloggers efforts, leads by a few thousands. Webb in Virginia is still ahead, but close enough we're probably looking at a recount.

But it looks like two Senate pickups for the Dem still. A 1 seat majority in the Senate is actually quite ideal: When the fuck have the Dems had sufficient party discipline to fuck over people with such a narrow majority?

I hadn't even heard of Tester until yesterday but now I'm interested. Who is he and how did he run his campaign, and how did he do so well in Montana?

He's a farmer in Montana, never ran for office before. He got sick of the BS, stepped up, and the Dems let him onboard. He wasn't getting much national attention, but the Left Wing of the political blogs decided they liked him, and threw behind him, fundraising, getting volunteers for him, and so on.

A big chunk is plain old grassroots support. It doesn't hurt that the incumbant, Burns, basically committed ritual suicide repeatedly, including telling firefighters who came across the country to help fight the brushfires they were doing a shitty job, threatening one, and so forth.

The Democrats are now in control (likely of both houses) and they will now have to do something besides be anti-Bush. They will expose themselves for what they are. Which pessimistically, not that much.

7.25$ an hour nationally? Congrats lady you just got the entire Midwest convinced you're trying to kill their economic efforts and chock out the small farmers and businessmen. I understand that in California the cost of living is high enough to more then justify this but I got by more then easy on a salary of 6.50$ in Oklahoma.

I'm not against higher minium wages but some of us don't need such an increase and it's gonna hurt those states economic by ruining one of their greater advantages against larger more developed states. She really ought to just let the locals decide for themselves.

State by state basis would probably be better for such. Where I live in florida it's almost a neccessity. Even with my military pay which is a very stable income there are months that I only squeeze by. We'll see how this goes.
