Gaheris shook off the fiendish lethargy through the power of Tyr [Will 19+12=31] as Percival took form before him. "FALL BACK! FALL BACK AND TAKE COVER," he cried to the surviving guards as he leapt onto Percival's back [Ride check for fast mount 12+12=24] and seized his bow from it's place next to the saddle. He loosed an arrow as Percival lifted off.

[17+19=36 to hit, 6+4+4cold=14 damage. Percival is taking off at full run speed, hopefully to end the turn too far away for them to easily catch.]

The missle slid off the pit fiend's black aura. The fiend extended his claw and snarled. Hell red spheres flashed from its palm and struck Percival's side where they exploded in blasts of deep red flames and choaking black smoke.

[Pecival takes 128 hp damage, Gaheris has four Reflex saves to make at DC 27]

[14+16=30, 10+16=26, 18+16=34, 18+16=34]

Percival screamed in pain as Gaheris twisted nearly sideways in the saddle, avoiding most of the flames behind his companion but caught by one of the bursts. He cursed as he realized the extent of his friend's wounds. He would have to return to Tyr's palace. Gaheris placed his hands on Percy's neck. "I'm sorry, old friend," he whispered as the gryphon vanished to the safety of the House of the Triad.

Malkamar was trapped in place. He couldn't move. He could barely maintain control of the Shadow Weave in himself. He focused in a largely futile effort to will himself through the spell, mentally praying to Mystra for some kind of assistance.

Astinius saw the meteor swarm spell and was very thankful it was not targeted at him, as it would have obliterated him instantly. He knew he didnt have much time, the second one probably would be. He uttered an incantation and removed something from his pouches. Within seconds he appeared to have immolated himself whispy blue fire, protecting him from fire based attacks.

With a casual sneer the second fiend lobbed hellfire at another section of the walls. The infernal blast of fire and smoke claimed another three lives. "Come out and die little mortals," it bellowed. "Come and learn what a feeble and futile thing good is."

((Breath Recharge d4+1=2. BreathWeapon available next round))

Torma swooped over to make sure that Gaheris' flight magics were going to save him from his fall. "Gar! We're over our heads... we have to retreat and find the summoner! It's the only way to stop them."

(Holding action ... will catch Gar if he falls, but otherwise the little dragon knows those things took her best shot and it did nothing. Claw and Bite won't scratch what acid won't bite.)

Gaheris snarled as wings popped out of the back of his boots. "Go low," was all he said to Torma, as he dove for street level, flying back to the Abbey between buildings as fast as the boots would let him, trying to disrupt line of sight between him and the fiends.

A pit fiend sneered and threw a fireball inside the cathedral door. "Come out and die or stay in and burn, it makes no difference," he sneered.

((Using held action for movement))

Torma did as Gar suggested, and more, grabbing him by the shoulders to give him an extra boost of speed. Since his boots of flying were supporting his weight, it was simply a matter of dragging him with her.

Astinius wouldn't withstand these two. And Gah and Torm were heeding his advice, it seems.

Time to buy time. [Readying Action: Spellfire Absorption]

Astinius concentrated, and soon from his hands was thrust forth a green beam of energy which streaked toward the pit fiend which seemed most damaged by his previous Horrid Wilting spell , which was the one on the right, and would hopefully strike and penetrate spell resistance (Disintegrate DC 26 fort save 11+10=21 ranged touch 16+17=33 topenetrate spell resistance)

The pit friend didn't even have a moment to scream as it vanished in spray of green sparks and motes of light. The other fiend snarled and intoned a word of power that left the elf realing. [Power Word Stun directed at Astinius]

Gaheris drew his sword as Torma pulled him along, scanning the streets below for any sign of a summoner or controller of the fiends.

((Spot: 21+17=38))

As Torma pulled Gar along in her flight down the streets surrounding the Abbey, she searched for anyone who might be behind this attack. Someone lingering, someone slipping into the Abbey in the confusion, someone just -out of place-. The fiends *had* to be a distraction .. but for what?! For Whom?

Whomever it was, they had to be here, and the Dragon was Hunting.

Malkamar didn't lower his spellfire absorption, moving to guard Astinious. A stunning Truename? That's all? And nothing at him?

I really hate not knowing why these things are pulling their punches. The Neth thought to himself, trying to get them to assault him. Who gains by this nonsense? And why would they want us to think of those who summon demons?

The pit fiend sent a fireball into the Abbey. "Come out and die, soldiers of the light. There is evil in your city. Aren't you suppossed to fight it?" it intoned mockingly.

Gaheris glanced up at the Abbey's walls as Torma towed him past a gap between the rowhouses. He only saw one fiend. Tyr knows where the other one went. "Look out, one of them left the wall," he said to Torma, going back to scanning the street.

Torma spotted two figures sheated in shining auras emerge from the Abbey. Abbot Khazar and Justicar Krelbin stood side beside as they emerged into the courtyard. The Abbot intoned a prayers and black flames swirled around the pit fiend. Its dark aura flared and the flames disipated. It looked upon its new challengers with glee. It spoke another word of power that sent the justicar realing as it launched itself through the air, bypassing Malkamar and landing in front of the abbot.

"Torma, I have to go," Gaheris said apologetically as he wrenched his arms out of her grasp and soared off towards the pit fiend as it menaced his lord and comrades.

He concentrated on avoiding it's inevitable counter-blow as he charged through the air at the thing's back, Bright Edge glowing white as he pulled it back to strike...

[8+19+4CHA+2flank+1high ground=34 to hit. Damage 5+3holy+14sneak attack+8smite=30 damage. Declare Dodge on the pit fiend, and Mobility makes my AC 36 against any AoO.]

Gaheris' sword skittered off of the thing's thick hide as he jerked his body to the left to avoid a claw hurriedly swiped at him. The holy power drained from his sword, expended.

"Go back to the Hells where you belong, fiend," he snarled as he brought his blade back for more strikes, the holy power flowing over it once more.

Malkamar saw the fiend race by, and leaped after him quickly to swing his sword in a desperate attempt to slow the creature down. [Jump = 17 + 24 = 41]

His sword came before him, shifting and twisting like the shadows it was, seeking purchase in the creature's thick skin. He didn't much care that he was about to get hit; he was going to nail the giant thing first. [ 20 Melee, +5 Bastard Sword, + 1 Weapon Focus, + 2 Flanking, +2 Charge, -5 for Power Attack. = 25. 20 on the dice + 30 = 45. Confirm Crit roll = 17. 17 + 30 = 42. I like the large modifier stack.]

[ 7 + 5 + 2 + 10 + 20 = 44. If I critted, the d10 kindly rolled an 8, giving a grand total of 89. Shadow-Striking ignores DR]

The pit fiend bellowed in pain as the blade slashed through his back. Bones broke and black ichor pumped from the wound, smoking as it reacted to the air.

Torma could feel her breath weapon regaining potency as she flew along, searching for what or whom might be controlling the demon. She noticed the Abbot and the Justicar emerging, and was about to suggest a tactic to Gar when he jerked himself out of her grasp and charged headlong.

"Idiot... my way would have worked better..." she muttered, watching as Gar and Malkamar both struck hard. With the demon distracted, all she had to do was come up over the wall behind him and line up her shot right between his wings...

((Breath Weapon, Line of Acid 6d4 Dam 3+3+4+3+1+2=16 ... well... maybe it damaged his wings enough to ground him :( ))

Acid splattered harmlessly off the pit fiend's scales, eating into a few of them. Abbot Khazar jerked as acid burned his right arm.
