#1 Question about German music performer (hey Bats!)

Post by Kreshna Aryaguna Nurzaman »

Well, this is about one of my CDs; an album titled Putumayo World Lounge. The first song is a great tune named "Dimdanana" by a German performer named Jasmon. The catch here is the tune's got quite strong Arabic (Turkish?) elements --something you would actually expect from the likes of Buddha Bar or Putumayo Sahara Lounge instead.

I find it interesting, though; are such middle-eastern musical elements quite common among German chillout performers? And what album would you recommend?

By the way, here's the cover:

Sorry, KAN. I don't listen to that kind of music (at least not that I know of). You probably know more about the stuff than I do.
'I wonder how far the barometer sunk.'-'All der way. Trust me on dis.'
'Go ahead. Bake my quiche'.
'Undead or alive, you're coming with me.'
'Detritus?'-'Yessir?'-'Never go to Klatch'.-'Yessir.'
'Many fine old manuscripts in that place, I believe. Without price, I'm told.'-'Yes, sir. Certainly worthless, sir.'-'Is it possible you misunderstood what I just said, Commander?'
'Can't sing, can't dance, can handle a sword a little'

Well ambient electronica (chillout) is always my chore, but ethnic chillout is relatively "new" things to me.

What kind of music do you listen, by the way?

I think it really depends on the artist. Most of the down-tempo stuff I've heard from Germany doesn't have those influences.

I imagine it's like any other genre, different artists draw inspiration from different styles. It could also be for that specific disc you have... Sometimes, they'll pull from a specific set when making a compilation. But, that doesn't mean all their music has that same vibe.

What artists do you listen, by the way? Any recommendations?

I guess so. Actually, I was just thinking that German is probably influenced a lot by the culture of the Turkish immigrants --explaining the musical elements I mentioned above. IIRC, that's also the same thing influencing Buddha Bar (BB is originated in France).

I usually listen to jungle, ragga, or D&B...

...There aren't too many down-tempo artists I'm really crazy about.
Bonobo is probably my favourite.
Other than that Kid Koala is interesting,
...and Lornalee is nice for something a bit jazzier.

I used to listen to such thing, but as I'm getting older, I gradually switched my listening to ambient tunes.

The one I like about It Came From The Sea is that it contains songs from other artists as well, notably Amon Tobin's Easy Muffin.

Never head about Kid Koala before, though, so I guess I need to try it. Thanks for the info, by the way.

Dunno', probably I'm not really updated anymore these days --there were the days where I always waited for Leftfield or Moby to release new albums, but I guess it's already over now.

By the way, do you listen to deep house as well? The bargrooves albums are always my favorite when it goes to deep house, although Cafe del Mar Chill House Mix comes close .
