Despite all the funding delays and governmental procrastination, it seems the Typhoon is quite a kickass jetfighter.Eurofighter Typhoon fires first Advanced Short-Range Air-to-Air Missiles
UK Ministry of Defence | Mar 7, 2007
The Eurofighter Typhoon has passed another milestone on its journey to become a fully operational Royal Air Force (RAF) multi-role combat aircraft, with the first firings of Advanced Short-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (ASRAAM) from a front line squadron aircraft.
Four ASRAAM were successfully launched by Typhoon F2s of No 3 (Fighter) Sqn based at RAF Coningsby, near Sleaford, Lincolnshire, at the Aberporth weapons range in Cardigan Bay, Wales, during the week 26 February to 02 March 2007.
These successful firings represent a further step towards Typhoon’s planned take over of the southern element of the United Kingdom’s Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) air defence stance, which 3 (F) Squadron will undertake from the middle of this year (2007).
“The first front-line firings of ASRAAM represent a significant milestone in the Typhoon Force’s progress towards operational deployment,” said Wing Commander Lol (correct) Bennett, Officer Commanding 3 (F) Squadron.
“The fact that we were able to let one of our most junior pilots fire one of the missiles is a testament to the overall weapon system integration,” he added.
Squadron Qualified Weapons Instructor, Flight Lieutenant Chris Layden, said: “These firings demonstrate that Typhoon and ASRAAM are a winning combination providing lethality in the air-to-air arena”.

Psst. I think that was sarcasm.

The Rafale? Not even fucking close. It operates off of France's abysmal excuse for an aircraft carrier; that should tell you about how it stacks up to a modern land-based fighter right there.

Of course, Rafale is also quite a bit older AND smaller than F-22/Typhoon (both prototype and squadron service, which Typhoon has yet to achieve anyway) and actually the original Rafale A was NOT a carrier airplane (though IIRC the Rafale M carrier variant was planned from the start) and the Rafale B/C still aren't. AND, unlike the F/"A"-22, Rafale actually has a credible surface attack arsenal. Besides it's a lot more visually attractive.

Actually, from what I hear, the F-15 is (debatably) a better aircraft than the F-16. It certainly is in one respect: there's a documented case of a F-15 having one wing ripped off in a mid-air collision and landing safely. The Cleric wrote:Better than this?

Urm-and? Especially as the depicted aircraft is neither a F-16 Falcon nor an F-15 Eagle but a F-22 Raptor?Lord Iames Osari wrote:Actually, from what I hear, the F-15 is (debatably) a better aircraft than the F-16.
