The beast was nothing Astinius recognized, although its composition suggested a connection with the Plane of Shadow. It wrapped its tentacles around Astinius in an attempt to pin him. [Pin attempt: 30]

(Jesus christ, with a 45, that is fucking insane)
Cursing to himself, Astinius struggled against the hold, while attempting to draw his wand of magic missile.

Mr. Toad leaped out of one of Astinius' pouches just as the creature initiated it's pin attempt.
He hopped what he judged a relatively safe distance, inflated his vocal sacks, and screamed for help. Very loud (toads can get ear-splitting)
"HELP! HELP! MY MASTER IS UNDER ATTACK VILE DARKNESS VILE DARKNESS!!! IN FRONT OF THE VAULT OF SAGES! HELP HELP!!!"
He was trying to call the guard, the Spellguard, anyone that would hopefully be able to help or know that the wards seem to have been breached.

The shadow monster wrapped its tentacles around the pinned elf, the tendrils of unnatural material looking for exposed flesh. One slid through Astinius's wards and sank into flesh, injecting a potent venom as it did so. [5 damage, Fortitude save]

Astinius cried out in pain and terror. Memories to horrible to imagine came flooding into his mind and he struggled with everything he had to reach the wand of magic missile at his side as the poison flowed into his system.

All the while, Mr Toad continued his frenzied shrieking. Begging for help from the city guard.

"Don't worry about me... I've got an idea of just how to get inside." Torma said, spreading her wings and springing into the air. "I'll see you two at the guardgate ... Dad," she called down, staring stright at Gaheris mischieviously before soaring away.
It was a great plan, a Brilliant Plan, and a great trick to play on both Gar and the whole city guard! Of course, they might not know that dragons also practiced fostering children, but once they see it's a Paladin of Tyr, they'll know why I'm calling him Dad! Torma giggled to herself as she flew down to the main gate. Luckily she didn't have DragonFear just yet... of course, if I were big enough for that, I'd have just claimed to be Gar's Mount and got in that way. Percy'd have forgiven me. Oh well.
She swooped down and landed on the side of the wall, perching there sideways with her SpiderClimb ability. "HI! Daddy told me to wait here.. is that ok?"

Astinius felt the strength ebb from his limbs [2 points Strength Damage]. The monster continued to coil around him and stab at him [grapple check 31, damage 4, another Fortitude save]
-----------------------------------------------------
The guards flinched away from the cheery dragonling walking on their wall. Clearly they weren't expecting to deal with this situation.

Torma knew her size was gonna work against her here, so she stayed on the wall, out of people's way (and casual reach of swords). "I'm sorry, I'm called Torma! What's your name?" she asked, feigning a more childlike demeanor while inwardly giggling at the guards' shocked faces.

"Uh, Zardikus Miir," said the closest guard. "Nice, uh, to meet you I guess."

"What in the Hells is she doing," Gaheris grumbled to Malkamar as the juvenile dragon soared towards the walls.

"Hi Zardikus!" Torma said brighting, smiling widely. Even with all the teeth showing, it was difenately a smile. "Wait til you meet my Dad, he's a really great man."Cynical Cat wrote:"Uh, Zardikus Miir," said the closest guard. "Nice, uh, to meet you I guess."

Gaheris quickened his pace, approaching the city gates as fast as he could without breaking into a run.

"Well... That's one of the two problems solved." That being said, the worst thing to show a city is a Shadovar running at it. He walked, instead.

"Here he comes!" Torma said happily, her head swiveling deliberately to point Zardikus towards the approaching Gaheris. "Uhoh..." she added, her head deliberately drooping. "i think he's mad at me...." she stage-whispered, 'sharing' this information with the guards.

It was one of those rare occasions when Gaheris wished he'd picked up the blessing that Captain Morn used to use to magnify his voice. Instead, he was forced to cup his hands over his mouth and yell up to the top of the wall.
"TORMA, COME DOWN HERE THIS INSTANT," he shouted imperiously, hiding his distinct embarrassment. He didn't know if even his status as a church lord would get them out of this one...

Torma flinched, her shoulders hunching, head dropping just like any child about to hear an earful from a parent. "i'm in trouble now..." she muttered, then scuttered down the wall.
Once on the ground she wyrmed her way over to Gaheris, sitting down in front of him in as small a package as her 12ft body could get, head lowered, eyes looking up at him as if she was still a wyrmling. "Sorry, Dad....."
Torma just wished she could see the image it presented from the gates and walls of the city, the small dragon huddled in front of the adult human like a cross between a child and a large puppy, knowing she was in trouble.

"Dad? What are you talking about?" The knight hissed under his breath, casting a glance towards the gatehouse before turning back to the dragon. "Just what do you think you are doing?"

In a sotto voice, Torma let him in on the secret, without dropping the chastized child routine. "Dragons foster out wyrmlings, just like humans do. Can you think of a better foster-father than a paladin?"
From a distance, Torma hoped it looked like 'dad' was quietly lecturing his charge. "As your foster, I would have to be allowed in. And you *are* taking care of me, making sure I grow up as a good little dragon, right?" Perfectly timed, her head rose a bit, eyes going round in that innocent 'you really love me, right?' look that crossed species bounderies.

Gaheris sighed. "Well, nothing to do but run with it now," he answered quietly with a stern look on his face. He made a quick motion indicating that she was to follow him and approached the gatehouse at a sedate pace.

Like a chastized child, or a large puppy, Torma fell in slightly behind Gar, her wings tucked in tight as she 'behaved' for her 'dad'.

Malkamar brought up the rear, hands up and open as he approached the walls. It was something you got used to. "Unarmed. No spellcasting here. I'm with the paladin, if it helps." A pause, as he glanced to the dragon. "...Though I imagine that's not necessarily a vote of confidence given his other companion."
