Oh yes.

Oh yes.

Definitely one of the few series where I'm so glad that they pissed all over the original novels. God but I loved the first two.

They had to. Carlos had been toast for years and the international situation wasn't the 70s anymore. And one of the few sequels that fits so smoothly into the original. Fucking Chris Cooper, Joan Allen and Brian Cox as senior CIA managers. Karl Urban and Clive Owen as wetworkers. Booyah!

That's part of it, but I just found the novels to be lame overall and abysmal examples of technical research- curved magazine on an Uzi, silencer on a .45... revolver. I mean, I'm not big on getting mucho detail on the heaters, but damn, if you're going to make references, do a little research. Otherwise, just use generic terms like 'handgun' or 'submachinegun'.

My main gripe is that Alex dies in the original movie, though. He was my favorite character in both the movies and the novels.

It's been so long since I read the original novels that I don't remember any details at all.

I read the first one, as long as you tune out the techinal parts (which could make grown men weep) it's pretty fun but hopelessly seeped in Veitnam and 70s politicos.

Long story short, our main character a vietnam sniper vet is sent undercover to pose as an assassin to smoke out Carlos the greatest assassin in Europe. Saddly in the course of this mission he loses his memory. His quest to get it back convinces members of the agency that he's gone rouge and insanity ensues in Paris France. Eventually he's brought in from the cold and the book ends with him on the beach turning to the girl he's hooked up and finially being able to tell her his real name. Good shit.
"it takes two sides to end a war but only one to start one. And those who do not have swords may still die upon them." Tolken
