Is this a big deal? Would it breach security?"One of the things that did happen today that concerned me was that during Bush's press conference he actually showed a graphic that showed 24 urban military outposts in downtown Baghdad. I would argue that showing that to the world and potentially to our enemy might compromise morale - might actually compromise operational security."
"Our enemies aren't stupid. They can look at that and figure out a grid coordinate and try and drop mortars on those exact locations. I mean, this is like a Geraldo moment during the invasion when Geraldo started drawing troop operation movements in the sand. I mean, this is unprecedented in my experience and maybe I'm missing something, but this is a real worry and I wouldn't go throwing this out on the airwaves for everybody to see if I were the President."

#1 Bush Channels Geraldo?
I'm not sure how accurate it is to draw the comparison. I assume it's not a good thing to say 'Hi! Here's where our bases in Baghdad are!' on international press conferences. With this concern in mind, I'm not republishing the Countdown video which includes shots of the map, however brief, just in case.

Chances are the insurgents already know where the bases are but it's still not a good idea to put photos up of them on tv for the reasons listed. Hell we don't even list the location of JTF 2's base in Canada. Despite the fact that everyone knows who they are.

A definate point, however, things are done differently in the US, US bases are slapped up on television more often than I like. As for the Iraqi bases their placement isn't secret and to be blunt it's way to late to worry about insurgents dropping motors on our bases, they got that covered already. As for the Baghdad bases... How would we keep their placement a secret in the middle of a major city? A bunch of Americans in uniforms in the middle of one of the biggest cities in the middle east... I think they've been noticed.Chances are the insurgents already know where the bases are but it's still not a good idea to put photos up of them on tv for the reasons listed. All that said, someone should sit down with Jr and tell him never to put up the positions of US forces in the field on T.V. Same goes for anyone else. It's just a bad habit to get into.

If I had a higher opinion of the intelligence of Bush's advisors, I would say that there's a chance the exact locations are falsified. Sadly, I have little doubt believing that they're this stupid.
