Deathstrike watched Swiftshot warily, but said nothing. Additional data would confirm or refute his suspicions.

There was something pleasing about being flattered by an obviously interested party. It was a pity there were so many doubts in her mind about how he got here.... He was polite to Hornet, but the look of surprise on Swiftshot's face had not been missed.
"I see you're fast witted as well," Crimson replied to the flirtation, then went on to more serious matters. "Hornet's our air cover," she explained, "unless DeathStrike choses to take over."
It was presumptious to suggest it, but she wanted to see Swiftshot's reaction to the idea.

"That depends on Prime, not me," said Deathstrike. "Unless you want to rearm me now."

Ice frowned at the suggestion. He glanced over at Deathstrike and then at Hornet. He studied Hornet seriously for a moment before turning back to Crimson.
"My immediate distrust of a Decepticon aside, Hornet is incapable of providing air cover alone. Deathstrike would be similarly pressed to keep up with all demands during combat. One flier is not enough. Especially given Hornet's... challenge of mass and lack thereof.
"And if Deathstrike takes over, I would want Hornet at my back to watch him."

Hornet wasn't sure what to make of Swiftshot's 'analysis'. He was surprised of course to hear himself suddenly described as the Autobots' air support for the region, the first anyone had told HIM of the task. Much as he was a bit nervous about being the only air support though, he did NOT relish the thought of being placed under the command of a newly-captured Decepticon. Not that he had anything against the Decepticon... but... surely the others didn't think so little of him that they were willing to place Decepticons in charge of watching the sky rather than him....
... did they?
"I can do it!" he said, failing to keep the nervousness out of his voice. "I can cover the sky! I know how to! Jetfire told me all about it back at the base..."
He wouldn't have insisted on it normally. Hornet was not so insane as to believe himself worthy of a military position above that of... well... any other Autobot... but... while Hornet didn't deny that the Decepticon was a lot bigger and probably a lot more powerful than he was, surely there was some value to him actually being an Autobot, right?

Crimson dropped a hand on Hornet's shoulder and gave him a reassuring squeeze. "As DeathStrike says... that's up to Prime. Although..." she looked up at the Decepticon with a very serious expression. "... If that helicopter returns, I may very well drag your weapon out to you myself, just to see it taken down."
This from the delicate bot who was just barely larger than the weapon in question.

"Jetfire is a capable flier, or so I have heard," said Deathstrike. "One has to be wary about information that comes from Starscream, of course."

"I dunno about flier, but he was a great scientist before the war." Overload shrugged. "Then again, he vanished on some recon mission out to the ass-end of known space, so who knows what's become of him?"

"Jetfire's the best flier in the whole universe!" insisted Hornet with the perfect faith of a hero-worshipper. "If he were here, the Decepticon helicopter wouldn't have gotten ten feet!"

Ice chuckled at Hornet's outburst.
"You notice, my small friend, that I mentioned if he were up there, I wanted you up there as well to keep an eye on him. Who does that say I trust more, hrmm?"
Ice grinned that dumb, open autobot grin. Open and jovial, just remember open and jovial.
"I'm sure you're a great flyer, Hornet. Don't take it personally."

"I'd take offense to that" the voice came from above the group of gathered Cybertronians, from a predominantly green with yellow trimmed vehicle. it looked like a cross between a helicopter, and a cybertronian ground car."Jetfire's the best flier in the whole universe!"
Springer transformed mid air, and landed easily next to the little group, and began surveying them. His eyes set on the group command said were sent from the Washington base, he recognized them from their profiles Teletran and Jazz had uploaded to him.
He settled on the other two Transformers, the silver hued Swiftshot, as Gridlock had informed him, and the hulking Decepticon flier...
"Deathstrike....." Springer's voice took on a low growl.
"Meeting in the C&C in half a cycle. That includes you Deathstrike..."
Springer walked away, he had come up ahead of Jazz, who would be arriving before the meeting.

Crimson answered DeathStrike, although she was listening to Swiftshot and Hornet's conversation. "Everyone knows StarScream's a cowardly backstabbing braggert... but in this case he seems to be right about Jetfire. I've not met the 'Bot myself, but I've heard stories out of more than just Hornet."
She plunked the Teenybot on the top of his head, lightly. "Someone's got a massive case of hero-worship."

Deathstrike watched in disgust as the Autobots lied to their comrade and praised skills they didn't believe in. He shook his head in disgust.

Stryke looked back at him. "Only an hour or two." Ever since arriving on Earth, Stryke had tried to use the human measurements of time as much as he could. Made it easier to coordinate with the human soldiers.

Shellshock looked down at the other Autobot. "Crimson said that there was something bugging you lately. Anything I need to worry about?"

Stryke shrugged. "Might as well tell you, since I told Crim the whole story. Deathstrike killed my best friend. He had hit me in the back and I was pretty wounded from it. We were trapped in a tunnel and Quicksilver took off, drawing that 'Con away so I could escape. I found out a short while after returning to base, that Silver was dead. He died to save me, and I've never forgotten, or forgiven myself for letting him die. I made a promise to kill Deathstrike when I had the chance, but I lost it. I should have shot him the moment I saw him, when he first got here, weak. Now, he's fully repaired and stronger than I am."

Shellshock leaned down ominously at Stryke, his optics narrowed frighteningly, the optics turned red again. "You kill him, and I promise you you will be joining him a micron later. I swear on the Matrix."
Shellshock's eyes dimmed back to blue as he straightened back up. "That being said. We can't afford for vengeance in this line of business. I could give you a list of all the Decepticon creeps that have killed my friends, but that would take too long. But if they surrendered tomorrow I'd still follow my orders, and fight at their side until they turned on us. Because that's what being an Autobot means now, it means holding yourself above the standard in everyway, no matter how hard it is. You suck it up, and you move on."
Shellshock put a hand on Stryke's shoulder. "Come on, Jazz and Springer are just about here. No doubt a debriefing is coming."

"How things change, huh Shellshock?" Overload smirked. "Seemed like just last Vorn it was me with the rigid code of honour chasing you, the snivelling one in the disguise." The cargo load shook his head slowly. "What you're built for isn't who you are. The Spark defines who you are... And they certainly change. Come on, Springer looked annoyed."

"Where is the C&C?" Deathstrike asked. Springer's dislike didn't bother him. Springer was a formidable warrior, but his self confidence exceeded his abilities. The triple changer was formidable and worthy of respect and Deathstrike would show it-. His train of thought slipped into a different direction. Triple changer. Interesting. That raised additional possibilities.

Shellshock shrugged at Styke's comment, then looked over at Overload when he made his comment. "I guess his holding his fire is the best we can ask for right now. Though I guess I'm proof enough that the spark determines the bot, not the design..."
Shellshock sighed, ignoring Overload's jibe at him for now, he waited until Stryke was gone before looking at Overload. "It seems that it was a vorn to me too. Wasn't until the Great War that I really understood honour, trust the humans to actually show an old 'bot how it's done." Shellshock grinned some. "Alright, let's get going."

Stryke reached the C&C, stepping inside and standing against the wall, waiting for the others to show up.

Hornet did not notice Deathstrike's disgust, occupied as he was with being teased mercilessly by Crimson and Swiftshot. "I meant the best airplane, Springer!" he insisted to the triple-changer as he commented on it. "And Deathstrike says even Starscream thinks he's the best!" Odd as that logic might have been, it only served to prove to Hornet that he had been right.
He rubbed the side of his head as Crimson teased him about his idol (one of them anyhow). "But... Jetfire IS a hero, isn't he? Just like Optimus!" He hesitated a moment. "Well... maybe not like Optimus I guess, but still! He's the best flier in the whole world. I wanna be like him some day..."
His voice trailed off as he imagined himself, not an insect but a mighty and powerful Autobot warrior, scattering his enemies with missile and laser blast. He imagined Starscream, shot down and wrecked, proclaiming that he, Hornet, was the greatest flier of them all. He imagined Optimus and Jetfire telling him that he'd done a great job, that he was a priceless asset to the Autobots, and that they were proud of him. A vague smile crossed his face as he imagined the scene...
... someday.

When everybody started moving in towards C&C, Ice followed behind, once more memorizing the layout in case he needed it.
