"We're going to go dig them out of Elturel," Gaheris responded, a hint of impatience in his voice. "I'm concerned for everyone still here while we're doing that. Even if the tsochari don't attack again with us gone, the Night Masks can and probably will. The gatehouse is a blasted ruin; there aren't any wards there to count on anymore." He took a deep breath.
"I was going to have one of my lieutenants try to dig up information in Elturel, but it's becoming increasingly clear that we should do it ourselves, to remove our enemies' reason for attacking the Abbey if nothing else."

"One of your lieutenants?" barked Krelben. "No, that won't do. Not if they've been keeping a low profile. Too little effort and it'll take too much time we may not have. The Night Masks won't be a problem. They're winning without having to lift a hand or worry about being on the wrong end of a martyring. Taking a shot at us now is a risk they don't have to take. We'll hold here."

"When I had planned to send Erek, I had no idea what we were facing," Gaheris said evenly. "Now that I know, I've changed the plan. I'll leave for Elturel at the earliest opportunity. Keep a close watch; I'm still not convinced that nothing else will happen."

"Before we had the slightest idea what we were looking for, yes," Gaheris said, making a conscious effort to keep the irritation out of his voice.

"There is nothing you can do around here that is going to help," said Krelben. "The Night Masks are going to be on the defensive as well, they won't want to be ripped up by a new player in town. Incidently, we found out that two strong arms and a lieutenant got new smiles one day before the attack on us. We have some time in that quarter."

Gaheris nodded. "Here's to them hurting the Masks as they've hurt us, then," he said, a touch of black humor in his voice. "We'll not stay here overlong. You know what to do." He inclined his head to the council and started to back towards the door.

Torma's eyes rolled, but she turned and followed Gar out of the room. "are we going to check the monks for signs of infection, or just leave now?"

"I'm fairly certain Krelben can arrange that himself. I had planned to stay and oversee the examinations to be sure, but he obviously wants us to go investigate Elturel, and if I argue too hard, he can make life very difficult for us in the Abbey."

"Don't think I hadn't considered the possibility," Gaheris said, stopping in the hallway and turning to contemplate one of the many painted frescoes that were scattered about the Abbey. This one depicted Tyr's Procession of Justice, which made it stand out from the artwork in the more public places of the temple, which tended towards cautionary tales. "We'll stay in the city until tomorrow so Astinius can have time to prepare. While here, I may as well volunteer my time to help with the examinations. When I said everyone in the Abbey I meant it, which includes us. I know none of us are infected, but it makes things look better, and leaves the council members little room to treat themselves as immune."

"No problem." And there where they stood, Malkamar was stripping out of his clothing. After a moment, he pauses. "...Oh. Yes. Sorry, I forgot no one here is quite so... Peaceful with their bodies."

Gaheris gave a bitter laugh. "It hardly bothers me. I've seen death, and it should be a far more personal thing than the living body. But transparency, my Shadowvar friend, that is what's important. If we walk back in there and say we examined each other and tell them it's their turn, they'll either think we're putting them on or say we are to cover themselves if the worst has happened."

"Gar... if they can't see my whole body now, what are they going to check?" Torma asked, rolling her eyes. Other than her backpack, everything else was covered by nothing but her natural armored hide.
As normal, Astinius opens himself up for draconic teasing. "But Astinius, you're so HUGGLEABLE!" she squealed, moving forward as if to embrace the mage.

"We can see your whole body now, which means there's probably little problem," Gaheris said with a smile. "That says nothing about the rest of us."
He paused. "Astinius, we know you aren't infected, since it's almost certainly you they want. But that will be hard to explain without trumpeting far and wide why it is they want you."

"Enough." Malkamar sighed. "Look, Astinius, would it help if I had gloves?" He asked, lifting a hand as shadows curled around it.

"It isnt necessary. I trust you. I wont like it, but I dont have much choice. Besides, when I started working with you all I pretty much accepted that would be tackled by a dragon, stabbed, shot, grappled with and burned. I can handle a physical examination" he smiled at the irony of the statement.
