There's three independent sources of Interuniversal Drive: Tannhauser Drive, which is what the Zohan use, IUDs based on a specific alien technological sequence, which is what the Alliance uses (more on that to be featured later), and Habsburg rift tech. They're all interlinked on a level which combines, in physical conception terms, with Stargates, but the exact details isn't to be revealed yet.Mayabird wrote:Tell Ed thanks for writing the stories. The Zohan were cute in WPP but they almost seemed cartoonish. Taloran children or space-gnomes, as one person said. Here, they're a very serious species fleeing for their survival.
Question: I thought the Zohan themselves were the ones that introduced the inter-universal drive since that's what they made in order to flee. Was I confused about that?

Nice attempt at giving Janeway a soul. Never figured her for a true believer.

I can't say I would share Dale's guilt. The Clans way of life simply could not last. To be blunt, it had to die at least this way it got to die on its feet.

'autarkist' (Yes I had to look it up.)
autarky
noun autarkies
1. A system or policy of economic self-sufficiency in a country, state, etc where tariffs and other trade barriers are erected so that international trade is hindered or prevented altogether.
2. A country, state, etc that operates this kind of economic system or policy.
Derivative: autarkic
adj
Derivative: autarkist
noun
Etymology: 1930s; 17c, meaning ‘self-sufficiency', from Greek autarkeia self-sufficiency.

A very interesting discussion there Steve...
Are we going to see any comment from the Hapsburgs?

I am glad to see the Civil War is back!
I can only imagine the... complex legacy Sisko is leaving to history. I mean there have got to be at least 3 views on Sisko in the Confederation alone, never mind the Federation and alien powers outside of it or even the Alliance.
So is Ben Sisko still a war hero and representative of the prophets or what?

Ok steve.. that was a great intro for the Jedi. I could almost hear the 'fight' music in the background as I read.

I was worried that perhaps it was too "brief", but I suppose there's only so many ways you can write a Jedi swinging a lightsaber around and deflecting blaster shots.LadyTevar wrote:Ok steve.. that was a great intro for the Jedi. I could almost hear the 'fight' music in the background as I read.

Yeah, I can still move like that. I can even put my hair up like that. The dance bra is easy to make, and the pants are simple. The shoes are a bitch.

It's a nice story and I enjoy reading about Vader between movies, but to be honest, I want more civil war.

If things go according to plan, Chapter 2 will show some more and hint at a major revelation for later on, and then in Chapter 3 it'll be almost all character development.LadyTevar wrote:Another great episode... and a little character development. We need more of the second now?
Of course, if things went according to original plan in Chapter 1, Diya would've been an unnamed girl that Silas helps and never sees again. But I got begged to keep her on.

I'm enjoying the readers on SB throwing around their speculations. All of the major sci-fi shows have been brought up (ST, B5, SG1, BSG, etc.) as have some animes that I've never heard of.LadyTevar wrote:I'm waiting to see what universe gets crossed with the Jedi, Master Steve.

Well now.. Serenity-verse. That's an interesting place to stick them.

Well, I was going to start on Chapter 7.... but I think seeing that image of DCAU Shayera Hol as a Jedi fried the creative bits of my mind with fanboy overload.

Okay questions, questions.
1: Are the Jedi required to be celibate? How the hell can you enforce that? Doesn't this eliminate the easiest source of younglings?
2: Why the Serenityverse?
3: Any rebellions going on against the Alliance? By the way, how about that Operative?
4:If the Force is present in our galaxy and we have the potentional to use it, why haven't we figured it out? What so different about the Star Wars galaxy that they could?
5: Basic is English? While I would love an explanation for this, I'm willing to accept act of God (or writer).

The prequel trilogy makes it clear that Jedi are forbidden attachments, since attachments can lead to things like jealousy or fear that, as we saw in Anakin's case, can cause someone to go astray or even go to the Dark Side.frigidmagi wrote:Okay questions, questions.

However, the situation with Qui-Xi and Tyva was more complex than that, as I will explain in future chapters.
Why not?2: Why the Serenityverse?
When it came down to it, I had various ideas of where to send them, and while up to Chapter 4 I contemplated something different, an SW/Serenity crossover seemed to be decently virgin ground.
We'll hear more about what's going in with the Alliance in the aftermath of Miranda being brought to public light. As for the Operative, I prefer to think that he obeyed his own principles and fell on his sword after Serenity left him at that port.3: Any rebellions going on against the Alliance? Who's to say there are those in the Serenity Milky Way who didn't? I doubt River is the only one to manifest abilities (and I may show such things later), all we lacked was a religion or philosopher to confirm the existance of the Force.4:If the Force is present in our galaxy and we have the potentional to use it, why haven't we figured it out? I'm still contemplating whether to develop an explaination for that or not.....5: Basic is English? While I would love an explanation for this, I'm willing to accept act of God (or writer).

One looks forward to it.However, the situation with Qui-Xi and Tyva was more complex than that, as I will explain in future chapters.
Good answer.Why not?
As monsters went I rather liked him. Your belief makes perfect logical sense however. As for the Operative, I prefer to think that he obeyed his own principles and fell on his sword after Serenity left him at that port.
Who's to say there are those in the Serenity Milky Way who didn't?
The fact that it took them forever to figure out that River was actually doing? The fact that we don't see anyone else doing so? The fact that it took the government of the Alliance destroying parts of her brain to get it done?
It's true she's not, there are all those other poor bastards at the government "school" for example.I doubt River is the only one to manifest abilities (and I may show such things later), all we lacked was a religion or philosopher to confirm the existance of the Force.

Nasty idea: to get them to manifest the Force strongly, the Alliance tinkered with their brain. What takes years of study to learn and master, available in just a few surgeries.
The question is 'why'. Unless it's a plan running similar to the Miranda theme: a way to make people controllable.

We know exactly why they did it Tev, they told us in the first 5 minutes of the movie. River and her luckless peers were suppose to be assassins and black op enforcers for Parliament.
In short River was suppose to be the Operative version 2.0 now with Psychic Powers Upgrade!

It's a moot point. After some thought I think I'm going to stop the fic entirely. Maybe resurrect the premise of exiled Jedi later on, but not in Firefly.

I'm sorry. Last night I was feeling very depressed, and some nagging concerns of mine on how well I can do the Serenity characters - and how much work it'd require when my motive for writing the fic was to do something fun - ballooned into that announcement. Though there might not be an update for a while, I think I'll try to finish it sometime.
