I'm sure the learned gentlefolk on this website has a few comments to make about this delightful article!(IsraelNN.com) A research paper that won a Hebrew University teachers' committee prize finds that the lack of IDF rapes of Palestinian women is designed to serve a political purpose.
The abstract of the paper, authored by doctoral candidate Tal Nitzan, notes that the paper shows that "the lack of organized military rape is an alternate way of realizing [particular] political goals."
The next sentence delineates the particular goals that are realized in this manner: "In the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, it can be seen that the lack of military rape merely strengthens the ethnic boundaries and clarifies the inter-ethnic differences - just as organized military rape would have done."

The following statement might flare some tempers and lead to some flaming...
Why the fuck did we give these ungrateful neanderthals their own country again? I'd really feel more sorry for the way the Jews were treated in Europe over the centuries if they weren't so busy being complete and total dicks right now. I still maintain that my "build a big fucking wall around all those involved and let them duke it out for the next 60 years" plan is the best plan to deal with this shit...

Is this supposed to be a slap against the American military and paramilitary units now accused of Rape during the Iraq Invasion, or what?

The paper further theorizes that Arab women in Judea and Samaria are not raped by IDF soldiers because the women are de-humanized in the soldiers' eyes.

........ So...... are they comparing themselves to American forces in Iraq and Afganistan, or to African warlords in Somalia and Dufur? The paper further theorizes that Arab women in Judea and Samaria are not raped by IDF soldiers because the women are de-humanized in the soldiers' eyes.

I think they're just comparing themselve to generally what happens when there is an occupying army. When one countries armies invade another countries cities, women get raped, that's an extremely unfortunate act that has gone on for centuries despite numerous attempts to stop it.

So... Oh My God the IDF isn't raping people? I'm honestly not seeing the problem here.

I've got to go with frigid here. The lack of rapes isn't likely to be the result of a sinister policy, but the fact that this is the army of a western culture that is under frequent observation when it is in the field.frigidmagi wrote:So... This doesn't require believing the Israeli Army be a beacon of morality to believe. Questionable killings are much easier to get away with. We hear about questionable and worse killings from the IDF all the time. The incidents aren't easy to hide. We hear about the IDF being less than vigorous in some investigations, but rape isn't like shooting a Palestinian under questionable circumstances. You can't pull the excuse "I thought she had a gun/bomb belt so I shoved my penis in her."
So discipline plus morals plus lack of opportunity plus the lack of ability to cover up or excuse them (even if they wanted to) means that you aren't going to have a whole lot of rapes.
It's not that I'm unforgiving, it's that most of the people who wrong me are unrepentant assholes.

Don't forget that the IDF isn't a thousand miles away from home and family. Combat soldiers will see their family, girlfriends if they have any, quite often.Cynical Cat wrote:I've got to go with frigid here. So, because the IDF isn't being a bunch of rapist bad guys, they're being bad guys? But if they were going around raping women, then people would be calling them bad guys, right? So, this article is basically saying that the IDF is a bunch of bad guys, even when they're not doing bad things? Is that what it's saying?
Yeah, I don't get it.
Yeah, I don't get it.

The best I can digest from this is that the IDF are NOT refraining from raping palestinian women because that's just vile and reprehensible behaviour (and likely as not illegal as hell under what the IDF uses in place of the UCMJ) but out of a desire to delineate ethnical differences. Because we all know there are no cases whatsoever of cross-ethnical differences rape in the OT whatsoever. Oh wait.

So Israel not raping Palestinians is supposed to be a big Jewish conspiracy now? Oh, those pesky Elders of Zion!
