Well, my main computer remains pretty unresponsive. I got a peep out of it at one point yesterday where the fans made an absolutely horrible sound, but nothing more.
The power supply used to make a zap like sound when I disconnected power or hit the off switch; sounded like its caps were discharging. This has happened only twice since the machine died despite dozens of attempts.
The power cord and outlet are both confirmed good, and an inspection of the motherboard seemed to show nothing wrong.
So, from the complete deadness, especially including the lack of the sound of that capacitor, I have come to the conclusion that the power supply must be the dead part, and figure I will have to replace it.
What is in there now is an Antex SL350 and says it puts out 350 watts.
The hardware in this box:
One hard drive (IDE)
One DVD burner. (IDE)
One floppy drive.
nVidia GeForce FX5500 graphics card.
The processor is an AMD Athlon 64 3000+.
4x 512 MB RAM sticks.
Nothing in that list should draw a huge amount of power, so I don't think much wattage is necessary at all.
The motherboard takes power from two connectors: one with 20 pins and one with four.
I'm on a /very/ tight budget, so the lower the price without compromising quality too much, the better.
Replacing what was in there with exactly the same model would be fine, just newegg doesn't seem to sell that model anymore. I haven't been following the power supply market, so I don't know what manufacturers are good and bad right now.

Any ideas?
(Final note: if one of you guys think cross posting this to SDN would be good, feel free. I'd do it myself, but I didn't realize how dependent I was on my stored passwords on the other computer until I lost access to them, so I'm currently unable to log in over there.
