#1 Papers Please! Changes to coming in and out of the US.

Post by SirNitram »

Mostly because I keep my ear to the Identity Project, I've heard of a few changes the DHS is proposing. Let's run it down...

A Lawful Permenant Resident(Like myself) must now be fingerprinted and photographed every time they cross the border, same as asylym seekers and refugees. Several million LPR's cross the border daily for work. YAY USElESS PAPERWORK. These records will be permenantly retained, even if the LPR becomes a citizen. They will be shared at will.

Passports are now required to go across the land border to Mexico or Canada, or indeed anywhere. The old waiver of letting people across with verbal questioning is gone, with, you know, the closest neighbours and one of the closest allies.

My very favorite, though, is that there is now a proposed rule that you must receive written clearance from Customs And Border Protection to return to the US, even if you're a citizen. Even if there's no legal reason for you not to return. The CBP can decide behind closed doors not to let you back. If they do? Well, hope you can get to Canada and plead asylym.

These are just three, and don't include recent revelations that the ICE has been detaining and deporting US Citizens. Born Citizens, not Naturalized ones. There's literally no logical reason for any of this.

Deporting to *where*? If you haven't another country to go to, where do they send you?

Judging by the case that got published, they take a guess based off your last name. Some poor bugger got sent to Russia as a result.

Yeah. Your last name is DEFINITELY a reliable source to judge your nationality on. It's not like there's anybody in the US with european ancestors.
