#1 DnD Session Influenced Sketches [56K Warning]
Sooo since I don't see much here thought I'd contribute. To start, just going to post some of the DnD related sketches I have. Most of them are from campaigns DM'd by Frigidmagi. The only one that isn't is Jael.
This was a first sketch, mostly for my character, A Half-Elf Cleirc. Also to express her.. disgust of 'The Baron'
Non-Armored clothing sketch and a sketch of CT's character
Sketch from a session where we had this lvl 1 rouge with us... That I protected as the proceeded to crit two Ettins to death with a rapier... Oh boy that was an interesting night.
Character from a short lived Iron Kingdoms campaign. Jael, another Cleric
Character for the most recent campaign, Dragonborn cleric, Dione.
Yes I like Clerics D:

Not even going to mention it's my campaign and the orginals are hanging on my wall... I see how it is.

I guess I will just have to make more memorable characters if I am ever to see one come to life.

Your characters really only come to life in battle. A distinct personality would help make them memorable in ways other than "combat monster." More chances to roleplay would of course help you accomplish this--but exp vs roleplay is a fairly easy choice for our group

I usually love making unique and interesting but significantly less deadly role-oriented characters but I just hate to have them get mangaled to early in the game to prove them selves. Oh well I hope the rest of the party can balance it all out. *cough*useless bard*cough*

Hey, getting your character mangaled early on while they try to prove themselves is half the fun of the characters, and I don't know if it's just me but you'd be AMAZED with what Lady Luck is willing to hand out when you do something crazy and heroic. The Village Idiot wrote:I usually love making unique and interesting but significantly less deadly role-oriented characters but I just hate to have them get mangaled to early in the game to prove them selves. Indeed. My characters may be domineering douchebags, but at least people remember their names. TVI... not so much, hell for several years he did not even name his characters unless we forced him to.The Silence and I wrote:Your characters really only come to life in battle. You could, you know, ask artsy people on the fora to draw your characters.
Yes, they wouldn't know your characters as well as the people you game with but wouldn't it at least be a start?
And nice work, Armaina.

You know I would love to give you more chances to roleplay. I really would. But let's look at the list of disasters here.
I: Meeting high elf priests and mucky mucks = Free for all in the palace while some members of the party race for a bar and others resort to violence and spells to attempt to stop them
II: Factionized Power Sturctures = I'll get the gangsters drunk and then murder them in a rigged duel. Or I'll ignore the whole deal. Or you mean we're in a city?
III: Helpless NPCs = Waterboarding. Instant death. Torture via fire.
IV: Monster Offering a Deal= Why not just kill them and take the money?
And my personal favorite
V: Guards showing up at the scene of a street murder = Free for All.
I'm coming to the belief y'all don't want to roleplay, you wanna hack and slash. That's fine, but don't blame me for it.

Actually that's exactly what Silence is saying. They seem to want a hack and slash over roleplay. Though I have to say, some of those encounters make me chuckle.frigidmagi wrote:\More chances to roleplay would of course help you accomplish this--but exp vs roleplay is a fairly easy choice for our group

Charon, I guess you havent met FM the DM. Lady Luck cannot stand against the shear force of Frigidmagi when he is looking to maim, especially when crazy and heroic.
But I guess there is glory in having your spectacular death always remebered.
Oh and Comrade, I never named my characters because I was just focused on hack and slash(and I was damn good at it), no I try for a bit more substance.

I'd also like to add that it kinda helps if the artist in question has a general idea of what the character looks like. So far, only your most recent character (if I'm not completely mistake) the druid, he's the only one I've had a general idea what what he looks like. The others have been pretty.. vague...

Hey, lets be honest here, considering the track records of those particular characters we were not about to let them run around in the streets, especially considering the penchants for random sociopathic violence possessed even by the LG monk...I: Meeting high elf priests and mucky mucks = Free for all in the palace while some members of the party race for a bar and others resort to violence and spells to attempt to stop them
I had nothing to do with this, and while this was going on, in game, I was busy peacefully obtaining information....II: Factionized Power Sturctures = I'll get the gangsters drunk and then murder them in a rigged duel. Or I'll ignore the whole deal. Or you mean we're in a city?
Without torture.
This was me. Though I dont think I ever did the instant death thing. The waterboarding however. I would consider that RP though...III: Helpless NPCs = Waterboarding. Instant death. Torture via fire.
That was only one person.... in fact a lot of this stuff is only one person, Thomas, who the rest of the party consistently wants to kill just to make him go away....IV: Monster Offering a Deal= Why not just kill them and take the money?
Also, Entirely Thomas.V: Guards showing up at the scene of a street murder = Free for All.
That was no free for all. I was a good monkey and got us off scott free for the street murder.
I would LOVE more non-combat RP... but 2 of the other players just wont let me do it.... Namely Thomas and Staight Bem

You're worse than Nalifan, depending on how you score killing evil people in a horrific manner.

Straight Ben's current character has done quiet a bit of RPing actually. Also you're the guy who set up the murder scene remember? Mowing down a guy in the middle of the street on pure suspicion.

This is very very true. But you accused the entire party of a free for all, I just figured I would point out that it was not ;)
Oh, Oelirik was. I even tried to have his alignment officially changed from LN to LE, but FM wouldnt let me, so he bounced back and forth between selfless acts of good, and breathtaking evil. You're worse than Nalifan, depending on how you score killing evil people in a horrific manner.

Nah... it was just all context dependent. Ne never slaughtered villages or anything, but he was not a nice person when it came to A) protecting himself B) Protecting his Own C) Making good on a contract. For other stuff he was a nice guy :)
If doing those things means he had to summarily execute the bard who turned traitor in combat, or had to torture a prisoner so be it. On the other hand, he DID take responsibility for unwittingly fucking up another dimension in pursuit of a fugitive, and volunteered to fix the problem on principle, enforcing that with an iron fist if necessary....
