[quote]In the most detailed examination yet of Senator John McCain’s eligibility to be president, a law professor at the University of Arizona has concluded that neither Mr. McCain’s birth in 1936 in the Panama Canal Zone nor the fact that his parents were American citizens is enough to satisfy the constitutional requirement that the president must be a “natural-born citizen.â€

I've not heard the claim made that Obama isn't an American Citizen, but then I'm hardly the target demographic of such efforts. Regardless, this is simply absurd, and it would be an embarrassment for the Democrats to make an issue of it.
Gaze upon my works, ye mighty, and despair...

Obama was born in the bloody state of Hawaii to an American citizen (his mother) of course he's a citizen.
If I was the Prof I would be careful about slinging that around. He's basically suggesting stripping away citizenship from hordes of military brats.

One of my relatives didn't vote for Dukakis in '88 because she couldn't vote for "someone who wasn't born in America" (not at all true, of course). This tactic does have a history.
It's not that I'm unforgiving, it's that most of the people who wrong me are unrepentant assholes.

Frigid? That's not what he's saying at all. He's saying those born in a specific subsect of bases, prior to 1937, are not 'natural born' citizens, but effectively naturalized.frigidmagi wrote:Obama was born in the bloody state of Hawaii to an American citizen (his mother) of course he's a citizen.

I would suggest that anyone who uses that kind of logic wasn't planning on voting democrat anyway...Cynical Cat wrote:One of my relatives didn't vote for Dukakis in '88 because she couldn't vote for "someone who wasn't born in America" (not at all true, of course). This tactic does have a history.

Oh, you'd be surprised, I think, at how conservative some voters who tick Ds can be.General Havoc wrote:I would suggest that anyone who uses that kind of logic wasn't planning on voting democrat anyway...Cynical Cat wrote:One of my relatives didn't vote for Dukakis in '88 because she couldn't vote for "someone who wasn't born in America" (not at all true, of course). This is quite true. The destructive effects of demonizing fully half of the political spectrum and then adding to that half arbitrarily.
That said, anyone with such logic wouldn't be electing a black guy. Sorry, has to be said.

You'll hear no opposition from me on that.SirNitram wrote:This is quite true. The destructive effects of demonizing fully half of the political spectrum and then adding to that half arbitrarily.
