#1 Rifts: Juicer Uprising

Post by Jason_Firewalker »

It is a sunny and wonderful morning and you all awake yourselves, about an hour outside Newtown, your destination for different reasons, to the sound of railgun fire. As loud clapping sounds pierce the morning haze you wake quickly to find yourself ready and raring to go. You then hear a large buzzing sound, sounding very similar to a large chainsaw, and the whine of jet engines.

As you run towards the sounds of combat you see a lightly armed Juicer engaged with a modified Samson Power Armor. And it looks as if the Juicer is loosing

Riding up on his bike, Skai surveyed the scene. "Well, that's not something you see everyday." He muttered to himself. "Let's take a closer look." Parking his bike, Skai took cover in some small underbrush nearby and unlimbered his pulse rifle. His optics indicated that he was roughly 1000 feet away. "Easy shot. So we have a guy, probably a Juicer, squaring off against a power suit. Generally not a good idea unless you've got some fire power." (He talks to himself alot). "To take them both out or to help the little guy....decisions, decisions." Skai mused to himself. An old familiar face flashed through his mind. Making his decision, Skai sighted on the power suits engines and squeezed off a shot.

Having awoken by hitting his head against a rock, Matthias did not begin the day in a good mood. However, the sounds of one hell of a fight also crept its way into his consciousness, and quickly gathering his things, he jogged toward the noise, narrowing his eyes, shook his head at the sight.

"Right, a Juicer's so scary you need power armor to take one in a fight. What a prancing pansy," said Matthias with disgust.

Deciding to not take out his rifle, he instead reached inside his armor, and touched a spot on his left upper chest. He was rewarded swiftly by the feeling of the ground shaking, and growing quickly stronger. A huge insect head and upper body from out of someone's most terrifying nightmares appeared near where the Juicer and the Power Armor were fighting, and it began to sway in mid-air, as if anticipating a meal.

Matthias' mental commands to it were succinct. "Don't kill the power armor, don't eat it, but make sure it has a horribly unpleasant day."

Hidden behind the ridgeline, Matthias watched with a small smile on his face as the gigantic insect began to make overtures toward the Power Armor.

Suddenly the day switched from good to bad for the bandit as the ion rifle hit him in the shoulder and the Spiny Ravager appeared out of the ground. The Ravager got the first strike in and pushed the Samson PA down to the ground with a thick crunching sound. The Samson's chest began to cave under the weight and the pressure the Ravager was exerting. The Juicer moved suddenly, faster then most humans could see and dug his chainsaw full tilt into the soft spot between the left arm and the shoulder of the Samson.

MD

With a yelp of pain audible over the growl of the Ravager the Samson suddenly fired a burst from its C-40R rail gun at the Ravager.

"Where the fuck did that thing come from!?" Skai said in surprise as a Spike Ravager just seemed to pop up out of nowhere. "Well at least it's got it's priorities straight." He said as the Ravager tore into the Power Suit. Standing up, Skai switched to his MP-23A and advanced to within about 50 feet of the conflict. Coming to a stop, Skai closed his eyes for a moment, grasping for that familiar presense in his mind. When he reopened his eyes, it was as if he had stepped into a whirlwind of colors (Using See Aura, targeting both people). "Appearances can be deceiving, but the mind is much less so. Let's see what you two really look like and truly see what your intentions may be."

Deciding enough was enough, Matthias got up from behind the rocks and began walking toward the scene below, reaching behind him to grab his rifle case, and assembling it as he descended the slope.

As he neared the scene of the fight, he sent a few mental commands to the Spiny Ravager. The Ravager burrowed its way back under the ground after looking directly at Matthias and making a terrified-sounding squealing noise, the magic creating it dissipating once the Ravager was out of sight underground.

Once he had everyone's undivided attention, he jogged up, the large gun held easily in his grasp. He leveled it at both of them (the lack of tripod or additional crew to operate the 10 foot rifle conspicuous only in their absence), and yelled out to be heard above the din of battle. "Both of you idiots freeze, or I'll let Betsy here tell you off. Back away from each other, nice and slow. I'm really fucking cranky this morning, and my trigger finger wants to make an example of someone's head, so don't fucking tempt me. Understand?"

The juicer moved with blinding speed away from the Samson (he is now close to 750 feet from the Samson in less then 3 seconds) but the Samson just lay there, its inner workings mostly torn out by the Ravager. The Samson had an obvious paint job that of a local bandit crew. The Juicer spoke up "Hey Squish, put the rifle down. I appreciate the help and all but this guy attacked me looking for creds!"

Blood pouring out of the Samson pilot's left arm, a quick shock from the open circuts into the liquid zapped the pilot and the smell of burnt flesh filled the air.

Deciding that he'd better make sure, Matthias raised the large rifle, and aimed it at the power armor pilot's now-motionless head.

Aimed shot: head

Damage: x10 + 40

After his shot, Matthias raised his rifle, now looking partially relaxed. "Sometimes they get back up after a while - it never hurts to be sure. So what happened now?"

After seeing the guy with the rifle put a round into the downed Samson's head, Skai moved in closer so that he could hear what had transpired. Deciding that the SMG wasn't enough, he switched to his NG-IP7 and switched it to Burst mode.

Though he was strong enough to shoot this rifle from the shoulder, it still had a visible kick, though he moved with it with practiced ease. The resulting fiery explosion within the power armor was downright impressive though, even for his practiced and jaundiced shooter's eye.

A noise from the rocks about ten meters away caused him to ready and aim his rifle in a heartbeat, aiming at the figure's head.

As he resolved his aim to the figure's right eye, he noted the figure's bullpup energy rifle, Northern Gun make being changed to burst mode. Keeping his finger on the trigger and the rifle aimed at the figure's right eye, he hailed the approaching being. "Good morning, would you mind terribly safing your weapon?"

The Juicer, obviously a Hyperion "Speed Demon" pulled out a pistol quickly and shot a small taser like device at the Mind Melter.

Seeing the blur of movement off to his left, Skai instantly threw himself to the side, switching targets as he went.

Suddenly the new man in the area, the Mind Melter, crumples to the ground as he attempts to dodge the lightning bolt shot at him by the Juicer. "Damn...... I dont know what to think, getting a bit jumpy here!" The Juicer dropped the gun and sighed. "The juice is still running."

"...Wow," was Matthias' first response. After a moment, he relaxed his grip on his rifle, and lowered the barrel, before obviously making a choice to set the butt of the rifle on the ground and lean it against a boulder, though he seemed a little ill at ease about doing so.

"Well, this is a hell of a way to meet, but my name's Matthias, and bounty hunting is my gig. So," he said nodding towards the Mind Melter, "how long until he's conscious?"

"{INSTERT NUMBER HERE} minutes till he will wake up. What should we do? I am Speedy Louis." Dashing over and extending his hand, the Juicer looked almost pissed off with himself that he shot someone.

Shaking the man's hand, it wasn't difficult to peg the man as a Juicer. Matthias nodded in respect as he used a firm, but gentle handshake. "Pleased to meet you, Speedy Louis. Here, I'll look at the new guy you shocked."

Walking over to the now unconscious man, Matthias crouched next to the unmoving figure. After subtly touching a spot on his upper arm beneath his armor, Matthias then touched the man on the forehead. This was immediately before yanking the figure to his feet and shaking the man's hand, who was just now regaining consciousness. "Hi there, I'm Matthias, pleased to meet ya. Are you alright?"

The first thing Skai noticed when he came to was that he had a pounding headache. It hurt, but was nothing compared to what the Masters had done to him at Psyscape. The second thing he noticed was that the stranger who hadn't shot him was standing him upright and shaking his hand. In response to the mans' question "Yeah I'm alright, my name is Skai." Casting around for his rifle, Skai switched it to safe, cleared it and did a quick inspection of it, all within the space of a breath. Snapping the weapon into it's magnetic holster on his back, Skai looked at the Juicer and said "Nice shot. What's your name?"

"Speedy Louis." The juicer was taking the normal juicer arrogance over squishies for a minuite but seemed to not really be that put off by being called a good shot.

They're all the same, a bunch of stuck up assholes. Skai thought to himself, already taking a disliking to this "Speedy Louis" character. Walking over to Speedy, Skai held out his hand "No hard feelings?"

"Fine with me Squish, ya just suprised me, thats all." The Juicer extended his hand and squeezed that of the Mind Melter. "Might be safer for us to strip what we can off this and get to town fast, Newtown where you two are headed?"

"Well before we go any further I just have one question." Skai replied, keeping a firm grip on the Juicers hand. "Why were you fighting this guy anyway? A lightly armored Juicer versus a fully upgraded Samson, a pretty one sided fight if you ask me. There's a good possibility that you'd be dead if we hadn't shown up." (Activating Hypnotic Suggestion, giving Speedy a little nudge towards telling the truth)

"Simple squishie, I was attacked by that tin can. He is part of a locally known bandit organization that was mostly cleaned out when the CS took the area." The Juicer pulled his hand back faster then Skai could see and said "I got dibs on the rail gun."

"Alright, sounds good. And stop calling me squishie. My name is Skai." Said Skai, a hint of annoyance in his voice. "And yes, I am heading to Newtown."

"Oh, really now?" asked Matthias, as he was smoothly dis-assembling his rifle into its three parts, and then slinging the resulting pack lightly onto his back. "That's interesting, since I was heading that way myself. How long of a walk is it from here, Louis?"

"Its about a good minute away at my top speed but maybe a good hours walk." Unhinging the C-40R from the hand of the dead Samson. He looks up and says, "Who wants mini-missiles? Looks like each arms got 2 HE minis."
