I did go a bit that route with Firetrack, I admit. However, he was from a Decepticon protoform for his second incarnation. As Blindside...yeah, his claws were his only weapons, and he was a horrible shot.

And you're a better shot than me! I find that amusing.

You do not get to complain about lack of size... ;)
Gaze upon my works, ye mighty, and despair...

Name: ShockStar
Faction: Autobots.... formerly Decepticons
Function: Short to Mid Range Heavy Combat
Alt Form: A WWII German Tiger tank lower body with the turret replaced by a tesla coil.
Quote: "Shocking dontcha think?"
Tech Specs:
Strength 3
Endurance 6
Agility 3
Intelligence 6
Skill 9
Firepower 10
Profile
Abilities / Weapons
Shockstorm System: In alt form the Shockstorm takes the form of the tesla coil. In bot form his hands become electrically charged. Either way with mid to short range, he can lay down lightning bolts that adversely effect the internal workings of his target as well as inflict some major damage.
Merits
Pit Fighting: Back in his days as a Decepticon, ShockStar was a star pitfighter known for flashy moves and amazing pins. (1point Merit)
Shockstorm System (2 Point Merit)
Flaws
Dishonorable: He will shock most Autobots with his lack of sense of fairplay. (2 Point Flaw)
Rash: Tends to make decisions rashly but will usually stick to them. (1 point flaw)
Personality: Short and too the point in conversations, he is not much of a talker but very blunt when he does. He tends to make decisions before orders can be given and it is very hard for him to not follow through on his decisions. He is very stick-to-your-blasters kinda bot and will is loyal to Prime beyond all recognition because he beleives that if he isn't he is as good as scrap metal. Lacking a sense of fair play, he will execute prisioners and do almost anything in the name of victory.
History: Created at the begining of the Fourth Great War, ShockStar was a loyal Decepticon for over three thousand years but he got sick and tired of Starscream's petty schemes and Shockwave's relentless adhearence to Megatron. So in the middle of one battle after Starscream let a stray burst fire from his lasers and it glanced off ShockStar's armor, Shockstar retracted his blades and surrendered to the nearest Autobot, Optimus Prime. Though he lacks the honor of most Autobots he is learning and trying to better himself purely because he thinks that if he doesnt truely try, Prime will cut him down. He is more scared now that the Decepticons have marked him a traitor and he beleives that the Autobots dont trust him, even though he has been a long time ally (About 8000 years). After being put into Stasis Lock after engaging Megatron in personal combat, ShockStar was recently uncovered by the American Military under Niagra Falls. His response to humans was, and I quote "Hi there squishy little things, do you know where Optimus Prime is?"
Note: Twitches: Has a nervous twitch about him, similar to people with torettes <sp?> or had one too many shock therapy treatments

Ok...guidelines..
If you want a Earth-based Alt-mode, it HAS to be something that at least really WAS on Earth.
If you want a Cybertronian based alt-mode, doesn't make up something stupid like a Tesla-coil tank. Cybertronian technology is so far beyond Tesla Coils...it's not amusing.
NO FLYERS!
You can make a Military styled alt-mode if you want, but don't try to be uber machines of death and destruction. Don't try to make your guy king bitch, otherwise I'll do to you what I did to Powerglide.
Or I'll let you meet Chimera.
One or the other.
Havoc, help him.

Name: SteelWave
Faction: Autobots
Function: Heavy Combat
Quote: "SteelWave want big BOOM!!!!"
Alt form: Merkava MBT
Size: Medium but large for medium
Tech Specs:
Strength 4
Endurance 8
Agility 3
Intelligence 6
Skill 7
Firepower 8
Profile
Abilities / Weapons
120mm Charged Particle Cannon: Single shot, takes 2 seconds to reload and recalibrate for the new round. Range Aprox 2.75 miles. Avail only in Alt Mode
Light Laser Machinegun: Coupla mounted light machine gun capable of clearing off most smaller bots but doing minimal damage to similar sized transformers. Turns into a semi-auto blaster pistol in Bot form with greater penetration power due to it taking more energy per shot as compared to a larger number of weaker blasts.
24 Smoke Grenades: Avail in alt and bot form, these smoke grenades creat cover for most advances and retreats.
Weaknesses
Highly depressed about his apparent positon socially with the other Autobots, SteelWave is easily swayed by some of the friendlier Autobots to do meanial tasks for them or will try and impress other bots by jumping into the line of fire without thinking just to garner a modicum of friendship. Also his paranoia is starting to get the best of him and he will, if not soon proven wrong about certain autobots, especially former 'cons, start accusing them of being traitors.
Merits
None
Flaws
Paranoid (1-point Flaw): Paranoid almost to the point of accusing other Autobots of being Decepticon spies. Will commit his self destruct mechinism to activation if capture seems 99.99999999% imminent as to avoid the reprogramming process.
Dishonorable (1-point Flaw): Wants to be accepted by the other Autobots but has garnered few friends due to his lack of adhereance to the Great Cybertronian Laws. He is becoming more and more depressed as time goes by because he sees the other Autobots looking at him with disgust, even if they dont.

I don't have a problem with him being a tank.
That Paranoid flaw though...that will be a problem, particularly for an ex-Decepticon who's still trying to get accepted into the Autobots.

I will admit that it is something that isn't going to come up a lot at all and there should definately not be a 1 point version of the flaw. But I think an Autobot executing someone who was attempting to surrender is going to cause some rather big problems when they get home.SirNitram wrote:I just think Dishonorable as a flaw is silly.
As to the character. He really just seems like Shellshock 2.0.
Also I disapprove on the basis that he actually used "coupla". Without even using an apostrophe...
...
What?

He is not an ex-decepticon, he is a full fledged autobot, he just cant deal with the pressure of it all. and when it comes down to it Tevar, he is a team player but he has a side of him that questions the loyalty of the team. Charon, the 1 point difference between your flaw and mine is that my character will beat information out of a captured 'con but wont just kill him. Also he is striving to get better but is miserably failing.rhoenix wrote:I don't have a problem with him being a tank.

Yeah but that has zero actual drawback. As we've seen Optimus is willing to resort to having someone beat information out of a captured bot, and several autobots have the mentality for it. So really all you get is an advantage. The two-point flaw potentially crosses a line that Optimus considers so dear that he was willing to leave Earth to the depridations of the Decepticons over honoring it.Jason_Firewalker wrote:He is not an ex-decepticon, he is a full fledged autobot, he just cant deal with the pressure of it all. and when it comes down to it Tevar, he is a team player but he has a side of him that questions the loyalty of the team. Apart from your potential character's flaws, despite him seeming to be a complement to Shellshock (which, to be honest, could be quite useful - especially when Shellshock and Overload are merged), I'm okay with the character.
As an aside - I picked "Reckless" for Firetrack for a good reason. Not so I could justify him turning to a whirlwind of wankery, mind you. I acknowledge that him being reckless in combat can have good results - but if a single one of those skill rolls had failed, he would gotten horrible repercussions for it. I have to make sure I play him like that in downtime also, otherwise it really will be getting a "flaw" that gives him extra points.
Essentially, he doesn't pay attention to consequences or danger as much as he should if he gets excited.
Any of you could perhaps argue the above, but I would point out that as Blindside, he had the same flaw - and I had to play it to his death, knowing ahead of time that doing so would very likely either have him out of play for quite a while, or outright lose the character.
Granted, the result of his rebirth continues his personal story quite well, as well as his evolution as a character - but keep in mind that it very well could have not happened.
In any case Jason, consider your flaws carefully. Given that this is more about role-playing than stats, consider his personality, backstory, and all that. Tev made Crimson deliberately to not be a combat monster like most of the rest (Hornet excluded, since he's more or less in his own category), and she really does add to the story by doing so.
Just to play devil's advocate with myself though, I could point out that more warlike Autobots could be a turn to the tide of the war - that unallied or distant Cybertronians who deliberately decided not to choose either side because they didn't like either one could get so annoyed at how the Decepticons are doing things that they join the Autobots just to shut them down. These Autobots would be ones that might give Optimus pause for thought, as many of them would not have his ethics. They might turn the tide of the war by being as ruthless and vicious as the Decepticons, but at what cost?
The above is a thought I just had, but an interesting one for shaking up the tone of the game's story. Take it for what its worth.

I will second the idea that you should make your character about character first and combat capacity second. Hornet is one of my favorite characters ever, and it's not because of his stats or combat capacity. You need a way to integrate your character to the game itself, not just to fry Decepticons.
Gaze upon my works, ye mighty, and despair...
Havoc: "So basically if you side against him, he summons Cthulu."
Hotfoot: "Yes, which is reasonable."

rheonix, Havoc, I can see where you are coming from and I would like to address that in the past in other threads and on other boards I have been a bit of a hack and slasher but my general reason for that is because I need to feel a character out and see where I am going with him before I start to really roleplay him. I try my best to be a good player and to role play before ROLL play but you have to understand, when I create a character, I do so with an organic sense of where I want to go with him based upon what happens to him, not based on what I at his or her conception think to be the route that I am going to take. I hope you get where I am coming from.
