Aha! Carry on, good sir - I know exactly what you're going through, and wish you all the best with the job search.

That said, let's not neglect any Exalted responsibilities you have just because you'll be working now. Priorities, you know.

Shall I wait for you? What about you Nitram?

BTW if you describe your search, what elements you want to look out for, it might substantially decrease the difficulty of the investigation roll

All joking around aside, I'd rather wait for him. He is a core member of the party, and I'm quite willing to wait for him to post.

Ah, good points!

He's doing the following, in order of priority:

1. Getting a good rough map of the town, prominent exits, blind spots, ports of entry, likely avenues of attack based on previous towns. (This isn't so much investigation as it is simple tactics and cartography, but hey)

2. Look for possible signs of previous scouting by other parties (like...Abyssals - this definitely would be an Investigation roll)

3. This is a bit trickier - looking for possible sabotage by a living member of the town - Kolth doesn't like the idea of a traitor in the town, but Abyssals are known for psychological warfare, and getting Abyssal sympathizers within a town to betray the townsfolk is a possibility he wants to either confirm or eliminate.

I'm sorry to hold anyone up, I just have no idea what I should be doing.

I blame medical problems.

Trying to determine what could be of interest to a deathknight, and where to look for would be a good logical start  Actually, I half expected you to find it outright, due to your apparent familiarity with Exalted fluff.

Well, just because I read about it doesn't necessarily mean Kolth will know, after all.

Kolth has likely run into an Abyssal once or twice before - so even if he doesn't know that much (e.g. as much as I as his player do), he'll at least have some good guesses.

I'm just trying to nail down on the map where we are. I'm guessing between Nexus and Lookshy, but that's alot of territory.

The location is not very important.

@rhoenix: if your character has heard about deathknights, the cognitive association I'm thinking about should be obvious.

Fresh bodies or tombs is my guess. Fresh bodies means guard the closest, in the meantime, I'll try and do a 'hurry up' search for any ancient tombs.

Post in IC edited to add some descriptors of how one searches.

Ah-HA! That makes sense - thank you Nitram.

Alright Nomad, add freshly slain bodies or tombs to Kolth's list, then.

...Kolth, they also could simply social-fu living people, take them away, then murder them.

Though fresh graves might be useful.

Oh well, here's the major hint anyway: Look at the background of the Abyssal NPC in the Exalted corebook.

I'm dying a little inside for dropping that.

Technically, the Abyssals book is even more... graphic in this aspect so you've got no excuse

I'm sorry, but I'll have to be flying blind for this one. I wasn't able to open the .pdf I was using as the Core book, and I don't have the Abyssals book.

I guess I won't wait for Marcao and update the game in the afternoon.

No one wants to try a guess? Well, I'll make things more straightforward next time

The connection between deathknights and ancestor cults is a valid deduction for an Int 5 character.
