"Crap" Arianne said under her breath. "This just gets better and better."

"Adahy," she said and walked over to his side. "Who do you think?" Surely between the two of them they could come up with an idea of who might have done this.

If they were local. With the way her day was going, they were probably ronin.

"Cattle mutilations," Alex said softly. "Could he be that much of a moron? It's not impossible. There is no bottom when it comes to stupidity."

"There was something in today's paper about the newest one," Prof. Childe replied simply. "A horse farm not far out of town .. I think they said it was Cameron Stables."

Prof Childe frowned at the name. "Crier slinks around many of the local festivals," she said with distaste. "I try to avoid him as much as possible." But a touch of worry was on her face as she again looked at the red fur in Alex's hand... "Tainted..," she repeated, shaking her head sadly. "He's fallen a long way."

"So Crier might know about the fetish and he fits other criteria as well," said Alexander. "He sounds like someone we want to talk to. Sees-Faces, how do you fancy the idea of playing dog and seeing if we can pick up a scent trail down there? Just pretend to be extremely dumb and extremely friendly when humans come around and you'll pass as a dog easy."

Sophie listened to the back and forth and waited for her opportunity to ask the obvious question.

"Who's Neil Crier?"

Breathes-the-winds looked over at Sophie. "Bad news. He's done some really bad stuff, I don't know the details. But bad enough that every sept in the area has closed their doors to him. I don't know much more about him."

"You're going to have to practice that if you're going to convince anyone that you're 'Joe Smith'," said Alexander. "So Joe-Smith, do you feel like pretending to be a dog and seeing if we can pick up the thief's scent?"

"Yeah," said Sees-Faces-In-Stars, looking a bit crestfallen. "Alright, I look."

With an apologetic glance to the pro-fess-or, Sees-Faces-In-Stars reverted to his lupus form, reveling in how all his senses suddenly became as sharp as he was used to.

He began to delicately sniff around the room. Not all prey are eaten.

He quickly located the scent, and followed it to the window. Looking meaningfully to the others, he softly barked a single word word in the Garou tongue. "Follow."

With that, he leapt out the window, and continued to track the scent.

Alexander pulled a leather thong off his "scroll case". "I guess I'll go play human owner with a broken leash. Don't none of y'all worry, he's a good dog." Alexander hurried out the room to go and catch up with the lupus.

"NO!" Arianne shouted in a futile gesture. "Shit," she groaned with a look at the professor. "Sorry, professor. Joe gets a little carried away." She grabs a pencil and scribbles her cell phone number on a slip of paper.

"If you think of anything else, call us, ok?" she hands the paper to the professor and runs out the door after Alex.

"Joe-Smith" had forgotten one little detail -- not all human buildings are one-story cabins. Thus, when he leapt out of the window after the scent trail, the lupus fell 20ft to the flowerbed below, to the surprise and shock of the forensic specialist who'd been attempting to get tracks from the dirt within.

"WHATHFUCK?!"

((Rheonix, you just took 3 health levels of damage. Roll your Stamina, and only your Stamina, Diff 7, and if you roll 3 successes you take no damage. If you botch, you broke something. ))

Prof. Childe simply shook her head as she took the piece of paper Arianne gave her. Young werewolves were like young college students -- act first, think later, it seemed. Now, she would just have to think up an excuse to explain why 6 students came in, but only 5 would come out.

Breathes-the-Winds blinked a few times as "Joe" flung himself out the window. The Metis looked over at the woman. "Sorry 'bout that. We'll... err... get him to work on that." He shook his head, maybe Sees-Faces was a plant too. Which meant that almost everyone here was a plant, which meant everyone but him was a plant. That was just great.

"We'll, err, let you know if we find anything." With that Breathes-the-Winds ran out of the room and made for the stairs to catch up to the others.

Sophie tried, and failed, to prevent herself from laughing when Sees-Faces identified himself so earnestly as "Joe-Smith". He was of course convincing nobody, but at least he was throwing himself into the role, as he understood it. The Shadowlord's reply was rebuking and sarcastic, of course, and the almost mournful look that appeared on the Theurge's face when essentially ordered to pretend to be a dog again, his dog, was enough to spur Sophie into saying something.

Of course a moment later, Sees-Faces flung himself out the window, which instantly drove whatever subtle point Sophie was trying to make out of her head. She did not wait for the others but ran out of the office and down the stairs, racing out the front door to see if Sees had broken anything, either a bone or some poor human who'd been passing underneath.

Though he landed with an involuntary yelp as his right forepaw suddenly hurt, the good news was that he landed directly onto the scent trail, and was able to follow it with little trouble, though going considerably more slowly than usual.

He barked a "hello!" with a happy face to the homid already there, and followed the trail once more with his nose.

In the back of his head, he fought down his annoyance with homids making tall dwellings for no good reason. What if there was a fire?

Alexander jogged out the building and after the overly enthusiastic lupus. He doesn't need to learn about human society my hairy Crinos form ass. Since they took so much offense to his last offer of advice, he was going to have to phrase it very carefully, but one way or another the lupus needed to learn about the problems inherent in having six humans go into a building that was being observed and having five humans and dog come out. If only he had waited until they had left and gotten out of sight so he could have come back with "his dog."

Well, no use crying over spilled milk. Fortunately that one of the people who went inside was a werewolf would not be the first explanation that the humans would jump to. They would likely assume that the dog had gotten in somehow as a result of the break in and hopefully wouldn't be doing a head count on the people who came out.

Hopefully. Meanwhile he had to catch up with Sees-Faces before he got in more trouble. At least he had the scent. Christ, it had been a while since high school track.

The forensic man was not amused. "What?! Get outta..." he started to say, then jumped as the Large Dog barked at him. Happy or not, it was not something that reassured the man. "GAH! GET! Geddonattaheer!" the man shouted, waving his arms to make the 'dog' move... and very happy that the dog did, leaving the forensics man to stare at the flowerbed and then up to the window.

"You alright?" Prof. Childe called down from the office, providing cover. "Where did it come from?!"

Alexander's long legs slowly ate up the distance between him and Sees-Faces. As he got close he softly said "here doggy. Good dog." Sees-Faces had managed to cover a considerable amount of distance before Alexander had caught up. They were probably out of sight of the cops and campus security. "Your dog act needs work Joe-Smith," Alexander said softly. "And remember the Litany. Turning into a wolf in a secured and watched building that shouldn't have any dogs inside endangers the Veil."

Breathes-the-Winds came to a screeching halt as he passed by a newspaper receptical. The young garou grabbed one of the local papers and then continued to run. Getting close to the doors he slowed down and pulled out his paper. It would be seen as odd to be seen running out of the building. So "Adahy" walked along calmly, pushing the door open with his hip as he scanned the paper for more information on the cattle mutilations.

He glanced up and saw Alex catch up with Sees-Faces, but didn't move to greet them. People would be watching, it would only bring more suspicion to them and with more suspicion that meant more people, and more people meant there would be a spy of Neil's in the midst.

"Then maybe you shouldn't start telling him to do that," said Sophie, coming up behind them. She had to flat out run to catch either of them being both smaller than Alexander and loaded down with her equipment and pack. It wasn't until she got up to the others that she noticed Sees-Faces was limping. No doubt a result from that impromptu fall.

"You okay?"

"I didn't tell him to do anything," said Alexander. "I asked him, quite politely I might add, if he was interested in playing hunting dog. He changed and jumped out the window of his own accord, certainly before discussing any plan with me." He considered other words, but left them unspoken.

"Sees-Faces, it would be best if you let Sophie and I get a look at that leg. We heal fast, but there's no sense in doing this the slow, hard, and painful way if we don't have to."

Making a growling/sighing noise as only a wolf can (which was roughly "dammit" in the Garou tongue), Sees-Faces-In-Stars looked up at the others looking somewhere between annoyed and forlorn. He replied concisely, trying to pretend to be as Dog for the suspicious/scared homid nearby (shudder). "Yes, thanks. I still have scent - I hope I have it still when paw is healed."
