Petro, the gun confiscations weren't a civil act. It was done by military personnale on military orders, making it a military act.

It wasn't the greatest thing to do, but when you have unknown snipers shooting at people, gangs roaming the area and just normal people trying to defend themselves and no way to tell anyone apart, the easiest thing to do from a peacekeeping is disarm everybody. In theory this means no one can shot anyone. In theory Communism is also the perfect soceity.

No, what you can do is gather up the large number of people who were organizing in unofficial posses, put your National Guard PFCs and corporals in charge of ad-hoc platoons of these guys and use them to handle the grunt work that frees up your trained troops to do things like countersniper work. They can do basic security, and they can pass out blankets, food, and swing shovels just fine.

That's the whole militia concept, after all.

Disarming people just makes them victims of whatever predators don't hang around to surrender their weapons, and that's fucking criminal.

And this is totally off-topic, so if you want to keep up the discussion on this point, just bounce it over to the Great Hall, please.

Expect if you'll check doing that is actually illegal in alot places in the US now Petro and this is Poltical discussion so it belongs in Politics. If you want to split the thread, go ahead.

Clarify please: what's illegal, where and how?

Forming up people in posses is illegal in many parts of the United States, Europe and Canada. My guess is the powers that be decided they didn't want people getting to comfortable with defending themselves from two legged predators or working in armed groups.

The offical story is it stops lynch mobs. From what I've seen it just moves the lynch mob into the court house and gives them cameras.

Then they had fucking stupid laws on the books, though we don't know if it applies in this particular case, since we don't know if that's on the books for the states in question.

Best part of that is that the groups that formed unofficially in Mississippi were perfectly legal, then, but put a fucking troop in charge of a group like that to get them tossing sandbags and OMG CRIME.

If the law in question was in force in these circumstances, it was amoral and stupid to boot, and a massive waste of available resources. By rights, every US citizen of age on this board is a member of the unorganized militia, and this is just the sort of thing we are here to serve in.

I didn't say it made sense though if you ask me the state is question is just the kinda state where laws like that would be rammed through.
