#1 Transcendence, a freeware 2D spacesim

Post by JEAP »

Transcendence is a fun little game. It is a 2D sprite based space sim that controls similar to Asteroids.

Take your ship through dozens of systems, buying better shields, weapons, and armor as you go. Get illegal military grade weapons at blackmarket stations and fight off hordes of enemies in the systems beyond the Commonwealth.

It controls very nicely and the ships are well modeled. It is all based in .xml, so it is very easy to mod and any ship you see in the game you can use yourself with little effort.

Played it for awhile. Very cool. Pretty hard too once you get into the other places. All in all very fun. Still trying to figure out how to get other ships, where to sell my illegal goods, and where I can get illegal weapons though...

They made accessing the blackmarket a bit tricky, took me a while and a bit of luck to figure it out.

Find a bootleg Star Wars 3DV rom and go to a restraunt. You'll meet someone at the bar and they'll take it off you hands for 150 credits and a blackmarket ID.
You can get a military ID by winning the arena fights and by equiping your ship with targeting and display enhancement roms. Then just show up at a Commonwealth Fortress and they'll ask you to do a mission.

You need to fix up a little .xml file to add other ships into the selection on the first screen. Something like this: Oromo.xml.

It doesn't change image in the shield display, but it is still fun to fly another ship.

I think I much prefer EV Nova, even still. Mostly the same gameplay, too - but there's much more to do.
