#1 Sarkozy & Seriously challenging stereotypes

Post by Norseman »

We've all seen the riots in the banlieus when Sarkozy got elected, and we've all heard how the immigrants hate his guts. That's why this post came like such a huge surprise.

Apparently a lot of stereotypes about France, the French elections, and the banlieus need modification. Mind you this could be a lot like the situation in Norway where some immigrants vote for the Progress Party because they're the only ones with an actual integration policy.

I thought it was at any rate interesting.

It jibes with what I've heard about the man previously, that he isn't anti-immigrant (being the son of immigrants himself) just pro law and order . Given the fucked up nature of race relations in France (where racism is illegal, but everywhere anyway) it makes sense.
It's not that I'm unforgiving, it's that most of the people who wrong me are unrepentant assholes.

You know, after the third generation, they're not 'immigrants' anymore. Except in France.

Is the rest of the Continent similarly backwards, denying citizenship to those not of The Blood? I hadn't heard any of that.

Do you mean legally or socially?

In France, 'immigrants' include the descendents of those who were encouraged to immigrate to France post WW2 to work in the factories. They're the ones who were rioting all over Paris. They are not citizens despite being second or third generation there.
