#1 Iron Man
Alright, I've felt somewhat jaded about comic book movies so far, since they have this horrible tendency to become increasingly trite and retarded as sequels progress.
However, the Iron Man movie looks rather interesting, and not just because three of my favorite songs were played during the trailer (Curve - Hell Above Water, Filter - Hey Man Nice Shot, Ozzy Osbourne - Iron Man). Like with most movies that seem semi-interesting, I won't go see it in the theaters - but it would be a possible rental.

While I have (unfortunately) to agree that recently superhero movies tend to get worse the farther the franchise progresses I still hope the one begun by Begins will break the spell.
And at least the Iron Man movie involves a known-name superhero.
And UNlike what I've seen of the new Batman movie, the armour designs for the Iron Man one actually look half decent.

Agreed on that count. What was done with the first Batman Begins movie (and hopefully its sequel as well) is a rush of fresh air, not just a breath - I hadn't been anywhere near as impressed with any comic book-based movie before Batman Begins.Batman wrote:While I have (unfortunately) to agree that recently superhero movies tend to get worse the farther the franchise progresses I still hope the one begun by Begins will break the spell.
On the other side of the coin, after seeing the second Fantastic Four movie (for free), I felt that I could have spent that time giving myself a steel wool enema, and had a far more enjoyable time.
Oh come on now, I rather liked the new Batman Begins armor - but to each their own opinion.Batman wrote:And at least the Iron Man movie involves a known-name superhero.

While the FF movies certainly weren't Oscar material they were enjoyable enough in my opinion. We're talking superhero movies. Them not making much in the way of sense if yyou think about things logically is sort of built in.rhoenix wrote: On the other side of the coin, after seeing the second Fantastic Four movie (for free), I felt that I could have spent that time giving myself a steel wool enema, and had a far more enjoyable time.
The Begins armour had a lot going for it. It also had a lot going AGAINST it. We're in danger of going severely off topic here, but I must ask - what did the Batman Begins armor have against it, in your eyes?Batman wrote:The Begins armour had a lot going for it. It also had a lot going AGAINST it. The new armour went triple time to work on the against.

If this develops into a continuing tangent AND there's actually more discussion about the original topic a mod can always split this.rhoenix wrote:We're in danger of going severely off topic here, but I must ask - what did the Batman Begins armor have against it, in your eyes?Batman wrote:The Begins armour had a lot going for it. 1. The cape being a completely different shade of black from the rest of the suit. That just visually stunk IMHO.
2. The cowl, while looking good overall and the fact that Bale actually could turn his head in it was definitely an improvement over the Burton suits, was IMHO seriously oversculpted around the cheekbones, and the way it attached to the rest of the suit looked like shit.
3. As did the way the CAPE was attached.
4. They apparently try to go for as much realism as is possible in something as inherently unrealistic as a superhero movie and go with a utility belt that has even LESS room to store all the gadgets than the silly classic comics one?
5. There's no point to having a chest symbol nobody can see. Yes, the yellow background symbol is stupid, as is the comics explanation for it being there, but a black symbol on a black background doesn't really work.

Well I appear to be going off topic from the off topic...
I'm actually looking forward to the Iron man movie. the trailers look bad ass and hell I've always thought Iron Man to kick much ass he has an exceedingly effective way of getting shit done and yeah i like that about him. with any luck this year will not be so bad for super hero movies anything could be better than Spiderman 3 and Fantastic Four two.

I actually rather liked Rise of the Silver Surfer. Of course, I'm apparently the only person on the planet who liked the first one, Hulk and Daredevil...

I like what I have seen from the previews. Enough so I think, that I will actually pay for it, and possibly even see the opening show of Iron Man.

I can understand most of your points, but as far as I understand it, Batman was simply a rich guy who had money for some good toys - quite different from most superhero movies. That said, I can understand and agree with a few of your points; particularly the part about the cowl and cape.Batman wrote:1. Indeed - he's another of the (somewhat) more realistic superheroes, in that he doesn't have any paranormal powers like most do, he just has a shitload of money with which to construct his special toys. I like that a bit more, honestly, despite my affection for the fantasy genre.Shark Bait wrote:Well I appear to be going off topic from the off topic...

I didn't hate the first Fantastic Four movie, but I wasn't in awe of it. I haven't seen the Hulk movie (and thanks for reminding me of it, I'll have to take a look at it). As for the Daredevil movie, I actually rather liked it, despite the hatred people heaped on Ben Affleck for it.Batman wrote:I actually rather liked Rise of the Silver Surfer. I am cautiously optimistic about it, but I won't be going to the theaters for it, more than likely. Then again, I don't for most movies, with rare exceptions. The Village Idiot wrote:I like what I have seen from the previews. Stretching of the suspension of disbelief aside, I think the implication is hilarious - that one guy with a shitload of money, a short amount of time, and a plan can do better than the military did for the entire fifth generation fighter program.Shark Bait wrote:Lets be fair here.... he outpaces them as soon as he kicks on his after burner, that and take a tank round at relatively close range and bairly get a scratch.

All depends on what he is using for fuel, a nuclear/hydrogen hybred rocket could probably out pace any jet engine the trick is having enough reserve hydrogen to keep it burning. but if you add some sort of ramjet you might be able to but thats some very heavy suspention of disbelief. Lets just assume that Ironman's armor is made from un obtanium, and his suit runs on some sort of combustion of magic pixie dust...rhoenix wrote: Stretching of the suspension of disbelief aside, I think the implication is hilarious - that one guy with a shitload of money, a short amount of time, and a plan can do better than the military did for the entire fifth generation fighter program.

Maybe he fuels it with the power of 4chan - a resource already strong enough to, in an unrefined state, melt the brains of the unsuspecting.Shark Bait wrote:All depends on what he is using for fuel, a nuclear/hydrogen hybred rocket could probably out pace any jet engine the trick is having enough reserve hydrogen to keep it burning. but if you add some sort of ramjet you might be able to but thats some very heavy suspention of disbelief. Oh, sure. The other rich otherwise normal human hero with high-tech toys acts all snide. You're just jealous that you didn't think of power armor first.Batman wrote:*cough* That'd be my comment from earlier in this thread? About superhero movies having the 'unrealistic' aspect sort of built in?

Chances are I did. And then forgot about it. I mean how many times has my costume gone from for all practical purposes real-world spandex to unobtanium-cloth-that-can-stop-machinegun-fire and back?
