#1 Tax Cuts vs. Spending: Some perspective.

Post by SirNitram »

So there's a WSJ piece about some of the less useful 'shovel-ready' projects put forth by the Mayors.

In Austin, there's a golf-course that creates 4 jobs, costing 886k
Boyton Beach wants an eco-park, employing 50 for 4.5M.
Virginia Beach seeks to replacement tennis courts. 1.8M, and 38 jobs.
Shreveport seeks police motorcycles, with just one new job for 150k.
Chula Vista(California is home of funny names) wants to make a dog-park. 500k, 7 jobs.

Frightfully inefficient, these examples(Naturally; one of Newscorps' papers is only going to try and paint spending as wasteful).

Now, Those Bush Tax Cuts...

The Official Party Line(IE, not from analysis, just from what was decreed by Bush's administration) is that 1.3 Million jobs were made by his tax cuts. The cost of the tax cuts were 1.1 Trillion.

A little math, and you get this:

Spending, Worst Case: 78k per job.
Tax Cuts, Conservative Ideal: 871k per job.

Order of magnitude.
Half-Damned, All Hero.

Tev: You're happy. You're Plotting. You're Evil.
Me: Evil is so inappropriate. I'm ruthless.
Tev: You're turning me on.

I Am Rage. You Will Know My Fury.
