A bit more like the comic than the old cartoon show, eh?

Named character death. Bullets. Mass destruction. Not a gore fest but people most definitely dying.

Yeah baby.

At the same time they're definitely playing to the cartoon crowd. Having Scarlet with Duke, making Storm Shadow responsible for the death of the Hard Master (in the comics it was Zartan trying to kill Snake Eyes long story).

There's a heavy anime influence especially during the ninja parts.

Gung Ho is the only Joe who actually seems older to me, and Road Block thank God doesn't rythme anymore.

It's been a while since the 80s. Anime has influenced Western cartoons and having it be present during the ninja bits isn't that bad. Still, Snake Eyes should shoot some people instead of swording them to death, but at least he is using high explosives in an appropriately sneaky way.
