Jeremy Clarkson became a real life hero when he saved a group of tourists that were floating out to sea on their lilos.

The former Top Gear host has spoken about the ordeal after noticing four men on their lilos that were being swept out by the winds.

Jeremy claimed that the four men were unaware that they had been pulled by the sea so far, which was about a mile off the coast of Majorca, and were surprised when the presenter came to their aid.

“I helped four of them. I rescued two French and two Germans,” the 56-year-old said.

“They burst out laughing when they saw who was rescuing them.”

He continued: “I loved seeing the look on their faces. They didn’t realise they were going to float off to North Africa.”

The Grand Tour host revealed that they were able to get the men back to safety by towing them on the back of their boat with a rib.

“They were all in their twenties and a mile out to sea. You’ll never paddle back in from there,” he told The Sun.

“I have now saved all the people who were being swept out to sea by a very brisk wind and am going to the pub,” he tweeted on Friday.

After revealing he was going to have a drink after his rescue mission was completed, fans praised his effort.

“The hero the world needs but does not deserve,” one wrote, while another added: “The reason you are my hero Jezza.”

While on fan joked: “Can you save Top Gear as well while you're at it?”

Clarkson recently called himself "completely irresponsible" when he made pals down lager before getting behind the wheel".

Writing about doped athletes in the Olympics, Clarkson said drugs could enhance the enjoyment of some events and jokingly suggested stoned hurdling or a 400 metre race with athletes on heroin.

On a slightly more serious note, he added: "When I was young and completely irresponsible I hosted a grass track banger event for friends and anyone suspected of being in proper control of their vehicle was summoned to the pits and made to take a breathalyser test.

“If it was revealed they were under the limit they were made to drink three pints of beer before being allowed to rejoin the race.

“A similar idea would, I think, transform Formula One.”
